Case

Worked example

"hello WORLD, this is test-case 123" in Title Case becomes "Hello World, This Is Test-Case 123".

How this works

UPPERCASE and lowercase use your browser's own Unicode aware case conversion, so accented and non English letters change correctly. A few letters change length, for example the German ß becomes SS in capitals.

Title Case makes the first letter of every word a capital and the rest lower case. It does not know which short words a style guide would keep small, such as "of" or "the". An apostrophe inside a word stays inside it, so "don't" becomes "Don't", and a hyphen starts a new word, so "test-case" becomes "Test-Case".

Sentence case makes the first letter of the text a capital, and the first letter after a full stop, exclamation mark or question mark followed by a space, skipping any opening quote or bracket. Everything else becomes lower case. A line break on its own does not start a new sentence.

In Title Case and Sentence case, acronyms are not kept in capitals, so "NASA" becomes "Nasa", and a name such as "McDonald" loses its inner capital. Punctuation, numbers and line breaks are never changed, and nothing is rewritten, corrected or translated.
