Unit Price Calculator
Find the price of one unit from a total amount and a quantity.
Result
Enter any two values and Numerila will work out the third.
Formula:
Using your values:
Worked example
A total of 9.99 for 3 items is 9.99 ÷ 3 = 3.33 per item. A total of 5 for 0.5 kg is 5 ÷ 0.5 = 10 per kg. Entering a price of 10 per kg and a total of 5 gives the 0.5 kg you can buy.
How we calculated this
The three boxes are linked by one relationship, so any two give the third: unit price = total ÷ quantity, total = unit price × quantity, and quantity = total ÷ unit price. The quantity must be more than zero. The amount can be in any currency and the quantity in any unit; the answer is the amount per one of that unit. To compare two products, give both quantities in the same unit first, using the Unit Converter if you need to.
A result written as a plain number is exact. A result starting with “≈” has been rounded to 10 significant figures, because its exact decimal never ends or is too long to read comfortably. When an exact value is long, its full digits are shown underneath. The calculation itself is never rounded: only the display is.
What this result means
The box marked Calculated holds whichever of the total amount, the quantity or the price per unit the other two determine. The price per unit is the amount for one unit of whatever the quantity counts, such as one item or one kilogram.
Common mistakes
- Comparing two unit prices whose quantities are in different units, such as grams and kilograms. Convert to the same unit first.
Assumptions and limitations
- The quantity must be more than zero. No currency or measurement unit is assumed or converted.
