Tip Calculator
Calculate an optional tip amount and the resulting bill total.
- Tip amount
- Total (bill + tip)
Worked example
A bill of 40 with a 15% tip gives a tip amount of 6 and a total of 46.
How we calculated this
Calculate an optional tip and the resulting total: tip amount = bill amount × tip percentage ÷ 100, and total = bill amount + tip amount. This tool does not split the total between multiple people. It calculates one tip and one total for the bill as entered.
Tipping customs vary by country, venue and situation. This tool does not suggest a "correct" percentage or reflect any particular country's tipping customs. Enter whatever percentage you intend to give.
Amounts are worked out exactly from the numbers you type. Nothing is rounded to a currency's smallest unit, so round the tip yourself if you want a whole amount.
A result written as a plain number is exact. A result starting with “≈” has been rounded to 10 significant figures, because its exact decimal never ends or is too long to read comfortably. When an exact value is long, its full digits are shown underneath. The calculation itself is never rounded: only the display is.
What this result means
The result is the tip amount and the resulting bill total.
Assumptions and limitations
- This tool does not split a bill between multiple people, and does not suggest a "correct" tip percentage for any particular country or situation.
