Hash Generator

Generate SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of text, using your browser and nothing else.

Hashed as UTF-8 text, in your browser. It is not sent to Numerila.

How it works

A hash is a fixed length fingerprint of your text. The same text always gives the same hash, and even a small change gives a completely different one. Your browser's Web Crypto works out SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 from the UTF-8 bytes of your text, and the results are written in lower case hexadecimal. A line break in the text box counts as a single line feed.

Hashing is not encryption. A hash cannot be decrypted or turned back into the text, and it is not a way to store passwords. MD5 and SHA-1 are not offered. Web Crypto only works on secure (HTTPS) pages, and the page says so if it is not available.

What this result means

Each result is the hash of your text as UTF-8, written in lower case hexadecimal.

Examples

  • The text "abc" with SHA-256: Begins ba7816bf8f01cfea

Assumptions and limitations

  • It hashes typed text only. Files cannot be hashed.
