Frequency Converter
Convert a frequency between hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, gigahertz, terahertz and revolutions per minute.
Result
Worked example
1,000 Hz = 1 kHz, 1 MHz = 1,000,000 Hz, and 60 rpm = 1 Hz. 1 rpm ≈ 0.01666666667 Hz.
How it works
Every unit converts through the hertz, meaning cycles per second, using exact factors: each step from Hz to kHz, MHz, GHz and THz is a factor of 1,000. Revolutions per minute (rpm) is included as a rotation rate: for anything that repeats once per turn, 60 rpm = 1 Hz, so 1 rpm is exactly 1/60 Hz. Radians per second is not offered, because angular velocity is a different quantity that differs from frequency by a factor of 2π. Enter zero or more: a frequency here cannot be negative.
A result written as a plain number is exact. A result starting with “≈” has been rounded to 10 significant figures, because its exact decimal never ends or is too long to read comfortably. When an exact value is long, its full digits are shown underneath. The calculation itself is never rounded: only the display is.
What this result means
The converted value uses exact, defined conversion factors. A plain number is exact; a result starting with “≈” is rounded to 10 significant figures.
Assumptions and limitations
- Revolutions per minute is a rotation rate: 60 rpm = 1 Hz. Angular velocity in radians per second is a different quantity and is not included.
- Negative values are rejected.
