Average Calculator

Calculate the arithmetic mean of a list of numbers.

Separate numbers with a comma or a new line, e.g. 10, 20, 30.

Worked example

The average of 10, 20 and 30 is 20, because (10 + 20 + 30) ÷ 3 = 20.

How it works

This tool calculates the arithmetic mean of the numbers you enter: the sum of the numbers divided by how many there are. Separate the numbers with commas or new lines. If any entry cannot be read as a number, the whole calculation stops and tells you which entry to fix, rather than silently leaving it out of the average. An average that six decimal places do not capture exactly, such as 155 ÷ 7, is shown with "≈"; an exact one is shown without it.

What this result means

The headline result is the arithmetic mean of your numbers: their sum divided by how many there are. The sum and the count are shown beneath it, so you can check the working.
